The plastic bag is the ultimate hyperobject. Made for durability and convenience, they are used for about five minutes and then thrown "away" to exist somewhere else for an estimated 500 to 1000 years. The styrofoam container inside this bag also has an expected lifetime of 500 years. The cement sidewalk beneath is expected to last only 25 years if maintained properly.

The bag says, "Thank you! For your patronage"

While plastic bags do not biodegrade, they may photodegrade in the sunlight, break apart into microscopic bits, and then spread themselves around the Earth. If they remain suspended in our atmosphere, then we will be inside yet another object: inside the universe, inside the galaxy, inside the solar system, inside the Earth's atmosphere, and, finally, when not inside a house inside the object of conditioned air, we will be inside our plastic bags.
